Not long ago I wrote about how Adam Savage from Mythbusters loves portable bandsaws. Since he does a lot of traveling for the show, I think he might get a kick out Milwaukee's latest cordless bandsaw which holds the title of lightest and most compact bandsaw on the market. Milwaukee's bandsaw is also the first to run on only 10.8-volts (M12).
New Delta 28-400 14-inch Bandsaw Coming In April
Chris   March 21, 2012   0   1
Delta has announced a new 14-inch bandsaw that features a 1 HP, 115V/230V, 1 phase TEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan-Cooled) motor. The new 28-400 bandsaw is built around a heavy-duty steel frame and sits upon a steel stand, both of which are said to reduce unwanted flexing. A relatively small foot-print and a 6-inch high cutting capacity should make this saw a good home workshop option.
Docks4iPods Turns Tools Into iPad Stands
Chris   March 20, 2012   0   9
Love tools and love technology? Then how about mixing them together with one of these cool handmade iPad docks that is made out of repurposed tools. Put one of these docks in your workshop and it will fit right in; just don't accidentally reach for one of the tools and knock your tablet to the floor. Tears might soon follow.

Makita introduced a new Impact Driver (model LXDT04) and a new Hammer Drill (model LXPH01) over the weekend, but their specifications lead me to believe that these belong in a mid-range class. I don't know that Makita officially has a mid-range class of tools, but I believe these tools fall into that class for a number of reasons. Either that or Makita is moving in the wrong direction in order to produce more compact tools.

The fact is that really old nails hold better than new ones because square shaped nails provide more contact with the wood fibers. Kaizen Foam Tips
Chris   March 16, 2012   2   0
Getting better organized is something that many of us battle with. One of the ways the professional shops do it is by having custom drawer liners made up. These liners are usually made out of some type of foam and they are custom cut using CNC machines to perfectly match the outline of your tools. Getting custom liners made is not something the average person is going to do, but FastCap has a product that makes it simple to get a custom fit at home.

Isn't Harbor Freight an amazing store? They have all of the small things that find myself needing and they are always at super low prices. Now, I never go into Harbor Freight expecting to get high quality tools that are anywhere close to contractor grade, but at their prices it is hard to complain about what you get. Harbor Freight is a good place to buy low-use tools. If you have a project that requires a mini grinder, but you don't plan on using it very much in the future, one of the Chinese brands will...
DeWalt Compact Table Saw DW745 On Clearance At Lowe's
Chris   March 14, 2012   0   1
The first time I saw super small DeWalt DW745 table saw on the jobsite was the same day I was getting the Tool-Rank logo made up. I remember talking with the logo designer over the phone while watching a carpenter walk onto the jobsite with the saw in one had. That was a long time ago, but the DW745 table saw is still a hit among carpenters. I came across this deal that Lowe's is currently offering. They have the DW745 on clearance for only $319. Amazon pricing is currently just above $350. You can reserve...
drill SQUARE HOLES Japanese form tool
Chris   March 14, 2012   2   0
A couple of years ago I wrote about a new tool by Darrell Peart that allows users to drill square holes without the need for any specialized machinery. The tool was similar to a mortise chisel, but it was designed to work with a regular drill and a mallet. In reality, you can not really drill a square hole with this system, though a Tool-Rank users posted a link in the article comments that detailed the math that would be involved if you could. Today we take a look at a couple of videos that show that this type...
New GLM50 Brings Bosch Laser Product Line To Six Measurers
Chris   March 13, 2012   0   1
Bosch currently has five different laser distance measurers on the market today, so you would think that they have every customer covered throughout their range. But the original DLR165K is no longer available and it looks like Bosch is going to fill that gap with the new smaller GLM 50 that made its way to us from across the pond.
