Bosch Barrel Grip Jigsaw

Some companies make their name just on a single tool, Porter –Cable’s Router, Skil’s SkilSaw, Milwaukee’s Sawzall (their drills are amazing too), so when I was looking for a new Jig Saw to replace an older one, Bosch was the first to come to mind.
I had looked at some models, a middle tier Makita, and an upper end Dewalt. After checking some out at different places I decided on the Bosch 1591EVSK, which is essentially the same Jigsaw as the Bosch 1590 except that it is the barrel grip version.
My first impression of this Jig saw is that it is built like a tank and is precise as a Swiss watch. A nice marriage of both form and function with a heavy emphasis on the function. It has a nice bit of heft to it, which is an asset in my book, unlike other Jigsaws this one does not bounce around during operation; it instead smoothly slices through wood, leaving the operator always in control. The Bosch 1591 is very well balanced, and has well designed ergonomics. The rubber grip allows you to operate the tool in various positions for different applications.
Another thing is, it’s powerful, it can cut through 2x4 , 6x6 posts no problem, and at the same time scroll a through a soft piece of pine with great detail.
This Jigsaw is chockfull of useful features, it has several orbital cutting settings, and integrated blower that shoots the dust off the sight line, and a blade clamping stabilizer which is extremely effective, no more wobbling blades. One of the coolest features, one that is fun to play with at first but more importantly very useful is the toolless blade ejection; this is extremely helpful after switching blades after extended use, no need to touch the hot blade.
There is also a dust extraction kit available, but not included, for some reason there is a notion that the Bosch does not have this feature, it’s does and the Bosch JA1005 adaptor kit provides the tool with that capability.
I chose the barrel version for it’s inherit control abilities, some may find the design a little awkward at first, and may be more comfortable with the Top Handle version, but I find the Barrel provides more options during use and is more versatile in certain uses. One difference between the two is the on/off switch, which is located on the side and the variable speed dial is located on the back, rather then on the on/off trigger on the top handle counterpart.
With either model, you can’t lose. If your in the market for a new Jigsaw this is the one.
